Our Mission
LetUsVote Maryland (LUV) is a nonpartisan, citizen-driven organization dedicated to making Maryland’s elections more fair, accessible, and representative.
Our primary focus is on incremental, practical improvements to election law that reduces the burden of unaffiliated voters who today must switch their party affiliation 21 days before a primary election in order to participate in the election.
Why LUV Exists
More than one million Marylanders are registered as Unaffiliated voters. Yet, under current law, most of these voters are excluded from participating in primary elections unless they temporarily change their party affiliation.
Many Unaffiliated voters are what we call “switchers.”
These voters:
-
Change their registration to Democrat or Republican several weeks before a primary,
-
Vote in that party’s primary election, and
-
Change their registration back to Unaffiliated immediately afterward.
This process is legal — but it is also unnecessary, time-consuming, and discouraging.
It places an administrative burden on voters, creates confusion, and introduces avoidable friction into the democratic process.

Our Primary Goal
The primary goal of LetUsVote Maryland (LUV) is to support targeted legislative reforms that reduce the burden on Unaffiliated “switcher” voters.
We advocate for changes that:
-
Allow Unaffiliated voters to participate in meaningful primary elections without being forced to repeatedly change their party registration,
-
Simplify election administration for state and local officials,
-
Increase voter participation and engagement, and
-
Preserve the integrity and transparency of Maryland’s electoral system.
Our approach is pragmatic, incremental, and bipartisan.
We are not seeking to upend Maryland’s election structure—we are working to make it function better for the voters it already serves.

Every voter should have a meaningful voice in selecting the candidates who will appear on the general election ballot.
Fairness
Voters should not have to game the system to participate.
